NEW MOTOR TEAR-DOWN RULE

If any racer wishes to accuse another racer of manipulating the brushless motor/rotor rules to give an unfair advantage, then the racer(s) making the accusation (herein termed the accuser(s)) must inform the race director & tech person of the official accusation and put down (in CASH) the current price of a new motor (currently $90 for a brushless motor in our case but may change based on market value).  The racer being accused (herein termed the accusee) must leave his entire car/radio impounded at the tech station while the tech person breaks down the motor for inspection.  If it is found that the motor is ILLEGAL by our rules, then the illegal motor will be forfeited over to Turn 4 and sent back to Novak for their tech inspection.  The accusee will be disqualified.  The money that was put down to tear-down the motor is returned to the accuser(s).  If it is found that the motor is LEGAL by our rules, then the torn-down motor is returned to the accusee, the $90 is forfeited to Turn 4 by the accuser(s) and a NEW motor from our case is handed over to the accusee.

1/10 PAN CAR OVAL RULES

1. LEGAL BRUSHED MOTORS: Brushed Stock motors legal to use @ Turn 4  R/C Speedway are (stock) 27 Turn, re-buildable 24-degree motors. Re-buildable 19-Turn motors, max timing is 36 degree. Stock & 19 turn must have tagged/marked armatures and cans. (i.e. "EPIC 27","EPIC 19" etc.)  Tags must be firmly in place with no signs of tampering.  Any motor without the proper tags and markings cannot be raced. 19 turn motors used are Trinity Komodo Dragon.

2. HYBRIDS: No hybrids will be allowed. Switching arms, cans, endbells and brush hoods between manufacturers is illegal. Motors must be in original configuration as they came from the manufacturer as approved by the R.O.A.R motor committee. Brush hoods must be original items provided from the manufacturer.

3. MOTOR TIMING: No mechanical increase or decrease in timing will be allowed. This includes, but is not limited to brush hoods, endbell, armature, can, timing rings and magnets. Original magnets will be used in factory configuration. Removal or re-gluing of magnets is not allowed. Brush cuts are left to driver discretion. Endbell notch must be original size and lock firmly into can with minimal movement. Epic "Outlaw Stock" motors and cans are not allowed. 19-Turn class max timing is 36 degree.

4. BALANCING/LIGHTENING:
No Epoxy balanced stock motors allowed except for Trinity Chrome Can / Purple End Motors. All manufacturers have legal drill balanced armature. No re-balancing via drill or any other method in addition to the manufacturer balance is allowed. No lightening, polishing, or removal of material or metal will be allowed. Included but not limited to slots, holes or lines in armature. Bottom line, the arms must remain as built by the factory.

5. MOTOR TECH:
All motors are subject to visual inspection by track officials at any time, for any reason. Other racers may request another racer's BRUSHED motor to be inspected at anytime. Only authorized Turn 4 R/C Speedway Officials may inspect the motor in question. Drivers may choose to remove their brushes before inspection.

5a. BRUSHLESS MOTOR TECH: All Brushless motors will be inspected with inductance meter per Novak recommendations. We’ll be looking to see that all motors within the same class (i.e. all 13.5s, all 17.5s, etc.) have readings in the same range. Each motor will be a bit different each round as temperature change has a lot to do with the reading we’re looking at.  Only Novak brushless motors (21.5/17.5/13.5/10.5) are legal at this time.  13mm Rotors are NOT allowed.

21.5 INDUCTANCE RANGE – The Inductance Range at Turn 4 for the 21.5 motor has yet to be determined but will be posted at the tech counter when testing is completed.  A 21.5 MOTOR WITH AN INDUCTANCE READING LESS THAN THE SUGGESTED MAY BE CONFISCATED BY TURN 4 AND SENT BACK TO NOVAK FOR REPAIR AND A NEW 21.5 MOTOR WILL BE GIVEN TO THE RACER BY TURN 4.

17.5 INDUCTANCE RANGE - MID 50’s TO HIGH-60’s mH (MICRO-HENRIES).  A 17.5 MOTOR WITH AN INDUCTANCE READING LESS THAN THE SUGGESTED MID-50’s TO HIGH-60’s MAY BE CONFISCATED BY TURN 4 AND SENT BACK TO NOVAK FOR REPAIR AND A NEW 17.5 MOTOR WILL BE GIVEN TO THE RACER BY TURN 4.

13.5 INDUCTANCE RANGE - HIGH 20’s TO MID-30’s mH (MICRO-HENRIES).  A 13.5 MOTOR WITH AN INDUCTANCE READING LESS THAN THE SUGGESTED HIGH-20’s TO MID-30’s MAY BE CONFISCATED BY TURN 4 AND SENT BACK TO NOVAK FOR REPAIR AND A NEW 13.5 MOTOR WILL BE GIVEN TO THE RACER BY TURN 4.

10.5 INDUCTANCE RANGE – MID TEEN’s TO LOW-20’s mH (MICRO-HENRIES).  A 10.5 MOTOR WITH AN INDUCTANCE READING LESS THAN THE SUGGESTED HIGH-TEEN’s TO MID-20’s MAY BE CONFISCATED BY TURN 4 AND SENT BACK TO NOVAK FOR REPAIR AND A NEW 10.5 MOTOR WILL BE GIVEN TO THE RACER BY TURN 4.

6. SPEED CONTROLS: Any MFG’s Speed Control may be used for brushed motor set-ups.  For brushless set-ups, only Novak, LRP, or Tekin RS Speed Controls may be used.

RACING

1. RULES:
Turn 4 R/C Speedway is dedicated to provide a race facility for all aspects and levels of Radio Controlled racing. The Race Director will provide you with all the information needed for the day’s event at the Drivers Meeting. Prior to the start of competition the drivers meeting will be held. This is the racers’ time to get clarification of any rules that they may have. Failure to attend this meeting will result in driver’s inability to form a complaint about rules. All rules are referenced in the R.O.A.R. handbook or Turn 4 R/C Speedway Rules.

2. INSPECTIONS: Car/Motor inspections may be done to any car at any time, for any reason. Only Turn 4 R/C Speedway Officials may inspect the car/motor in question. This is to ensure you will have level racing at all times at Turn 4 R/C Speedway.

3. BODIES: All bodies must fit the guidelines of R.O.A.R. They must meet the minimum height requirements. No tinted windows allowed. This helps with inspection, as well as it is illegal by R.O.A.R. No altering of the roofline may be done (i.e. no dimples etc.)

4. WEIGHTS:
All 1/10 scale 4-cell NiMH classes are to weigh a minimum of 2.50lbs(40oz) with transponder. The 21.5/lipo class must weigh a minimum of 2.38lb (38oz).  When at Turn 4 R/C Speedway, our scale is the only one that matters. We do not support the "Dime Rule".

5. RIDE HEIGHT: Chassis Ride Height must be no lower than 0.1875”

6. BATTERY:
Maximum of 4 cell 4600 mAh or approved lipo battery (see General Track Rules for approval list).

7. WHEEL DOTS:
We do allow wheel dots.

8. QUALIFYING:
During the qualifying races, the faster car has the right of way. The Race Director will keep you informed of lap times, positions, as well as let you know if a faster car is behind you. You will be asked to let him/her by. If you fail to give up the preferred line, the Race Director will then instruct the slower driver to give up the preferred line.  Failure to comply will result in a 1-lap penalty assessed to the driver's best qualifying time. (see Section 8 below entitled "RACE" for additional rules)

9. RACES:
Races are 4 minutes long. The Race Director controls the race. In the event that your car is in an accident, let the Corner Marshal pick up your car and replace it on the racing surface. DO NOT DRIVE AGAINST TRAFFIC. If your car is broken, the Corner Marshal will hold the car in the infield for the duration of the race. The Corner Marshal is not allowed to repair your car. You are to remain on the Drivers Stand for the duration of the race. Leaving the Drivers Stand will result in a 1-lap penalty on your best qualifier. Your car must finish under its own power.

10. RACING SURFACE:
All cars can scrub in the tires on the carpet on the outside of the track barrier. No scuffing in on the track. All cars must be put on and taken off the track at the entrance of the drivers stand. Failure to comply will result in a 1-lap penalty.

11. PIT SPACES:
Each racer is allowed 3 feet of pit space. You are allowed to use a shelf if you need to. If attendance allows, you can use more area.

12. RACE FOR FUN: We are all here to have a good time.  Respect and treat others in the same manner as you wish to be treated. Turn 4 R/C Speedway is a family facility. Please keep that in mind and keep questionable language to a minimum when children are around.

Where to Stay

CT Motels

If you are in the CT area for an overnight stay, we recommend the following motels closest to Stafford:

Motel 6 - Enfield, CT

Rodeway Inn - Willington, CT

Click on either of the above motels to take you to their booking website.  We have personally stayed at both (as we live over an hour from the track) and for between $50-$75 a night, they are the best motels we've found within 15 miles of the track.  The Rodeway Inn is closest to Turn 4 and if you call the Rodeway Inn, opposed to just booking online, sometimes you can get a better rate over the phone.  Motel 6 is convenient to both Turn 4 & R/C Madness if anyone wants to do a double shot of racing at Madness on Saturday night and Turn 4 on Sunday.  Both motels are pet friendly! (and approved by my very own husky Windy!)  Motel 6 is located in a business/retail district with several chain restaurants within walking distance.  Rodeway Inn has a 24 hour restaurant/truck stop.

MA Motels

If you are in the MA area for an overnight stay, we recommend the following motels closest to West Boylston:

Classic Suites & Inns  - 508-835-4456 - 181 W. Boylston St, West Boylston, MA  01583

Reservoir Motor Lodge - 508-835-6247 - 90 Sterling St., West Boylston, MA 01583

We have not stayed at either of these hotels, but they are the closest to our W. Boylston location.  Classic Suites is 1/4 mile or less from us on the same street sandwiched between 2 family restaurants/pubs.  Reservoir Motor Lodge is about 2 miles away with a chinese restaurant & pizza places nearby.

About Us

The Vision
Created to fill a specific need, Turn 4 R/C Speedway & Hobbies hopes to satisfy the die-hard oval racer as well as the newbie racer experimenting with a new hobby.  We operate this banked track because we LOVE oval racing and realize the need for a banked oval carpet track in the northeast.  We hope to build up this venue to the status it held back in the late 80s and early 90s (then known as K&N R/C Speedway)  Most importantly, we want to see a smile on every face that walks through our doors and a smile when they leave.  We will make every effort to call fair races and make your time with us as FUN as possible!  After all, isn't that what hobbies are supposed to be...fun??!!  We hope that our new additional location in West Boylston will have as much success (& more!) as our CT location.

The Company
Turn 4 Inc, doing business as Turn 4 R/C Speedway & Hobbies in CT and Turn 4 Hobbies & More in MA, is devoted to getting you on the track with the best equipment out there and to have our walls & display cases stocked with the merchandise you will need at any given moment. We want to hear from you, the racers, to know what classes you want to run and what equipment best meets your needs. We can special order almost any hobby item...from RC cars to planes to helicopters.  Just ask and we'll give you the best deal we can!

We hope you will visit the Hobbytalk website to get convenient access to information, new products and ideas, as well as a place to network with others who have similar interests. We have atleast 2 threads on that Forum at any given time.
